This is very special and elegant whithe from Cantina Produttori San Michele Appiano, one of the worlds most famous cooperative producers, from the tiny Appiano village in South Tirol / Alto Adige. 100% Chardonnay from the Sanct Valentin line: the line for connoisseurs!
This wine is made under the DOC Alto Adige where many varietals can be used to produce wine. Very typical wine from this area. This wine is from the Sanct Valentin line and is the best Chardonnay that is made by San Michele Appiano. The Sanct Valentin line is the single vineyard and the riserva and is made from hand selected grapes.
Pairs very well with antipasti and delicate fish meals with subtile sauces. Drinktemperature is 10-12° C. Drink until 7-10 years after the year of production. |

San Michele Appiano winery, founded in 1907, is located in the province of Alto Adige, North Italy. The winery is run by Anton Zublasing, Hans Terzer and Günther Neumair, along with 370 team members. Winemaker Hans Terzer, who is known as one of the best winemakers in the world, particularly focuses on white wines with Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer.
The vineyards covers in total an area of 350 hectare and are situated at an altitude of 400 to 500 meter above sea level. The four vineyards are: Sanct Valentin, Schulthaus, Gleif and Montiggl. The vines are rooted in the clayey and gravelly soil and enjoy the best microclimatic conditions. Organic fertilizers are used instead of harmful chemical fertilizers.
The cellars are renovated with large oak cask of 4000 to 7000 liter capacity. This produces wine with symbiosis of both wood and fruits. Next to wood, of course stainless steel tanks are used too for wine fermentation and storage.
On an average the winery produces approximately 2,600,000 bottles annually. Of the total, red wines account for 46% and white wines for the remaining 54%.
