Producer Information
The Casanova di Neri farm began in 1971 when Giovanni Neri bought a large estate within the
territory of Montalcino.
Over the years our continuing goal has been the search for and purchasing of land which we believe to be optimal for growing high quality grapes. The result is that today we have about 36 hectares of vineyards divided between four quite distinct areas: il Pietradonice in
Castelnuovo dell'Abate, le Cetine in Sant'Angelo in Colle, il Cerretalto and il Fiesole near the farmhouse of the same name facing Montalcino.
As the grapes have improved in quality so more care and attention has been taken in the winery from the vinification to the use of casks of different sizes and made from different types of wood.
Casnova di Neri has four important vineyards: The "Fiesole" vineyard is situated opposite the farmhouse of the same name where we have our offices and winery. This is the farm's oldest
vineyard, situated 350 metres north-east of Montalcino. The grapes from this vineyard are usually used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. Nearby we find the "Poderuccio" vineyard. It is situated at 350 metres above sea-level. These grapes are also used to produce our Brunello di
Montalcino.
In 1986 they bought Cerretalto, a magical place. It is a natural amphitheatre near the Asso river at a height which varies between 250 and 300 metres above sea-level. Its position to the east of Montalcino means that it has a unique and unmistakable "terroir".
On the opposite side of Montalcino to the south-east, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate we find the "Pietradonice"vineyard. The earth, the position, the microclimate, the choice of clones, the grafting and a well organised vineyard all help to produce great grapes which improve each year.
Casanova di Neri is one of today's most important producers for Brunello. They acquired world fame with their 2001 vintage, as the Tenuta Nuova 2001 was selected as wine of the year at Wine Spectator and the 2001 riserva Cerretalto, received the prefect score of 100 points at Wine Spectator.
