Producer Information
Domaine de Cristia was created 70 years ago by Etienne Grangeon, who started with growing 2 ha of Grenache. Later in 1963, his son Alain Grangeon joined the winery and started working along with his father. Alain Grangeon developed the winery further by growing improved grape varietals like Syrah and Mourvedre. Finally in 1999, brother Baptiste and sister Dominique also joined their fathers and grandfathers business and rebuilt the small 2 hectare land into a huge 21 hectare estate.
These 21 ha are spred out over four different parcels, of which 90% of the soil is composed of sand and clay. It is mainly Grenanche, which is grown in the vineyard. It covers 85% of the land as it has strong resistance to wind and dry weather. 10% of the vineyard is covered by Syrah and the remaining 5% by Mourvedre.
The soil of Domaine de Cristia does not contain any chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Only natural, organic fertilizers like sheep manure are used when required. Grapes are harvested, pressed and de-stemmed followed by three weeks fermentation in concrecte vats. After that, according to the type, the wine will age further in stainless steel tanks or in oak barrels
