Producer Information
The winery of Galardi is owned and run by a group of three cousins Maria Luisa
Murena, Arturo and Dora Celentano, and Francesco Catello who are firmly dedicated to make wine of the highest quality and
has therefor committed themselves hiring one of the world's best oenologist,
Riccardo Cotarella. They try to maximize the intrinsic characteristics of the
native grapes Aglianico and Piedirosso through attentive and careful
vineyard management.
The Galardi winery and the hillside vineyards are located at
approximately 1,300 feet above sea level and benefit of an ideal growing
conditions, such as climate and exposure. The winery is set among beautifull chestnut groves in the high
hills of Sessa Aurunca, in northwestern Campania, and on a clear day the
Mediterranean can be seen in the distance.
This estate produces just one wonderful wine: Terra di Lavoro which is highly saught after! The name of their praised icon
wine Terra di Lavoro or “Land of Work” in Italian, reflects the soil
composition in the area which is extremely rocky, thus difficult to
cultivate.
The yields and total crop is very low. So, only about 10.000 bottles are produced each year although the winery will have almost 30
acres under production in the future. The owners and Cotarella decided
to focus on the native varietals Aglianico and Piedirosso
The Terra di Lavoro is a must for wine connoisseurs around the world. It brings exceptional value considering the price tag.
