 About the wine
A very seductive and medium bodied red wine made 100% Grenache of old vines made by the topproducer Domaine de la Vieille Julienne from Chateauneuf du Pape. This Cotes du Rhone is one the finest in the region and is highly recommended!

Afte vinifcation 80% of the wine has been aged for more than 12 months in large oak casks . Afterwards the wine had refinement in bottle for some addtional months. The wine can age extremely well!

Pairs very well, with all kinds of red meats, wild boar, roast suckling pig and strong seasoned dishes. Drinktemperature is 16-17° C. Drink until 35 - 45 years after the year of production.

About the producer
The forefathers of Jean Paul Daumen acquired the domain in 1905. The production was then sold to negociants. From the 60ties a small amount was bottled mostly for the family and friends. Jean Pauls father Maxime Daumen built cellars with new foudres to make and bottle more wine. Jean Paul continued the development at the domain so today it is regarded as one of the best in the appellation.
Bio-dynamic principles play quite a role for the work in fields and cellars.

The domaine has 11.5 ha. AOC Chateauneuf du Pape. 0.5 ha. is with white varieties but a white wine is not produced any longer.
From 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Counoise and 5% Cinsault is made two cuvées of red wine a classic cuvée and a Cuvée Reserve. Until 2001 a third Cuvée Vieilles Vignes was produced, but today the grapes from these old vines are used for the classic cuvée.
The yield per ha. is very low - below 20 hl./ha. The grapes are destemmed and the maturing takes place in foudres (80%) and small nearly new barriques for about 12 months. There is filtration before bottling.
